LOCAL Number Portability
Local Number Portability is a service provided by most Australian Telecommunications carriers which enables us to re-configure your fixed line PSTN service to become a Digital service. All inbound calls for your service will land on our Digital PABX, whereupon it will be verified - then connected through to the relevant destination that is configured.
This is a very new technology and is subsequently only available in a small subset of the Exchanges present in Australia. If you would like to check the availability for LNP on a service you currently have, please use the following form.
Local Number Portability is subject to the same provisioning limitations as other fixed line service carrier changes, meaning any complex features associated with the service need to be removed before porting. Interfering services are: Call Diversion, Telstra rotary and line hunt groups and FaxStream. If ADSL is pre-existing on a service that is to be ported, the ADSL will be disconnected. In this case, it is better to install the Business Digital ADSL on a different fixed line service, whether it's new or existing, then port the original fixed service over.
It is the customer's responsibility to verify and account for any disconnection/contract break fees due from the existing Voice/Internet provider when the Local Number Port occurs.
Service numbers that are ported onto the Digital Network are subject to the rules regarding number ports as laid out by the ACIF. When relocating, it is only possible to keep the same number if you are connected to the same SZU or Standard Zone Unit as where the service number is currently allocated. This means: if you aren't connected to the same telephone exchange (same suburb), its highly unlikely you will be able to relocate your service. For further clarification on this, please contact us directly.
HOW Does it Work?
TECHNOLOGY
VoIP or, ‘Voice over IP’, is the technology that transmits telephone calls using Internet Protocol (ie. Over the
Internet). We have built a world class network specifically designed to provide great voice quality and integrated it
with a fully featured and customised digital PABX (PBX) system.
A PABX (PBX) which stands for Private Automatic Branch eXchange is a telephone
exchange that serves a particular business or office. If you have ever waited in a queue on the phone, or left a voice
message it is highly likely you were connected to a PABX (PBX) providing that functionality.
CONNECTION Process
The first stage in connecting your premises to Business Digital is to establish availability of ADSL and/or Local Number
Portability. You can use this tool to determine this.
Once availability is established, we install ADSL on a service at your premises on a standard PSTN - Public Subscriber
Telephone Network line, like you would find at everyone's home/business. The ADSL technology is very widespread in Australia
and provides the raw connection to our digital voice equipment and external access to the Internet.
Once this is provisioned we send you pre-configured hardware to supply your Internet to your computer systems,
and pre-configured digital handsets for the voice product.
At this stage you can make outbound calls using Business Digital and receive calls using your pre-supplied Indial Number.
For the final stage of the connection process, we move your existing services across using Local Number Portability
(where available), or provision the new services as needed. The services will then be configurable using our online
portal as requested.
